"The organization that represents more than 800 Long Beach police officers announced this week its endorsements in the races for the 9th District council seat, city prosecutor and city attorney.
In spearate press releases, the Long Beach Police Officers Association explained their support for Rex Richardson, Charles Parkin and Doug Haubert, citing the emphasis on public safety that all three candidates have had in their current positions.
LBPOA joins the Long Beach Firefighters Association in its support for Richardson, who is running unopposed for the 9th District council seat that will be vacated by Steve Neal as he runs for State Assembly.
"Rex has proven his commitment to the community over the last three years while serving as the Chief of Staff for the 9th District," said LBPOA President Steve James. “Rex understands the needs of the community and clearly has the ability to work with others to make our City better."
Parkin has served as Acting City Attorney since July and announced he would be running to keep the position in next year's election on Thursday.
"For those of us who go out and put our personal safety at risk to keep our communities safe it is comforting to know that we have a guy like Charlie Parkin protecting us," James said.
LBPOA also praised Haubert's gang prevention strategies, which he implemented during his first term as City Prosecutor.
"No City Prosecutor has focused on the gang problem like Doug Haubert has,” said Steve James, POA President. “Long Beach is a safer city because of his efforts. He understands what will make our streets even safer and he has earned the support of Long Beach’s police officers.”
The association has not yet made any endorsements in the mayoral race."
