Long Beach, CA - Former Long Beach City Council members Rae Gabelich, Tonia Reyes Uranga, and Val Lerch announced their endorsement of Charles Parkin for Long Beach City Attorney in the April 2014 election.
“I have known Charlie for many years. His commitment to being an independent voice for Long Beach residents is well documented and that is why I endorse Charlie Parkin for City Attorney,” said Gabelich, who was a two-term council member from the Eighth District.
Reyes Uranga, who represented residents in Long Beach’s Seventh District from 2002 - 2010, mentioned Parkin’s ability to fight for quality of life issues important to Long Beach residents, “Charlie fought the State of California and recovered $200 million to close up old, abandoned oil wells in the Long Beach tidelands. He takes a proactive approach to his Office.”
Former Vice Mayor and Ninth District Councilmember Val Lerch said, “Charlie ensures that Long Beach taxpayer dollars are spent wisely by making private firms doing business with the City fulfill their contractual obligations so taxpayers aren’t stuck with delays and cost overruns.”
“I am honored to have the endorsement of three very respected community leaders and former public servants. They understand the City Attorney’s role and how this Office collaborates with the City Council to make Long Beach the great city it is,” Parkin stated.
Parkin began his civic career with the City of Long Beach in 1984 as a Petroleum Engineering Associate at the Department of Oil Properties. In 1995, he transitioned over to the CIty Attorney’s Office where he has since held the titles of Deputy City Attorney, Principal Deputy and Assistant City Attorney. The Long Beach City Council appointed Parkin full-time City Attorney in July of 2013.
